Welcome to Audiotechture!
At Audiotechture we use sounds and
acoustics to create sonic interiors and environmental
designs. The basis for our work is sound design, architecture,
acoustics and audiology.
The acoustic design created by
Audiotechture uses sounds as architectural elements
just as architects have traditionally used light and
colour, and through a combination of these elements
we help create well-being and better functionality in
work spaces, in buildings and in public areas.
Acoustic design can be explained with these four principles
as starting point:
1 Respect for the voice and the
hearing.
2 Awareness of what different
sounds symbolizes.
3 Knowledge of the natural flow and
tempo within a certain space or
environment.
4 Understanding of the
mechanisms that in any given
situation can behave irrationally
and chaos-like. |
|
We maintain that it is both possible and desirable
to shape sonic environments in order to create well-being
in general, and as a result, to take advantage of the
positive effects one can predict. We believe that acoustic
design should be a natural part of the architectural
process and we are convinced that it will soon be in
demand just as any visual interior design element is
now, and that it will become equally significant.
Audiotechture’s acoustic design is based upon
the following assumptions:
1 The environment should have a
positive effect on the
people in it.
2 The sounds used in an
environment should ideally be
free from elements that can be
traced to a certain cultural
tradition or style.
3 The sonic profile should be
dynamic and organic.
4 The sound levels should
nominally be below normal level
of attention and slightly above
the sound level determined by air
condition and fan systems. The
exception being when sounds
should work interactively or
|
|
serve as embellishments.
5 Parts of the acoustic design
should have an interactive to
relationship people in the
environment.
6 The acoustic design should be
formable and variable
over time.
Why not music?
Today music is used in both commercial and public environments
for two main reasons: to mask noise from fans and air
condition systems and to create a positive ambience.
Many times however the result is the opposite. Partly
because the volume is at such high levels that we become
too aware of its presence, partly because although the
music may well appeal to some people it will also repel
others for a number of reasons often originating in
cultural background and heritage.
